Born 1971 in Tunisia, he taught French Literature at secondary institutions before taking part in the cinema club movements only to join the Tunisian Association for the Development of Film Criticism (ATPCC). Karoui is staff member of the film magazine SeptièmArt, the 40 year-old pioneering publication in Tunisia. He also writes on the specialized website Africiné (www.africine.org) and also contributes numerous articles in the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi and in the Tunisian daily newspaper La Presse de Tunisie. In 2011, He created the news magazine al- Kandil. He was elected as President of ATPCC in 2010.
